I love all of her albums and poems; but this the only one that I could not bear ... too much loss that year... Fred-Todd-....so very, very sad... and yet as an artist she was brave and strong... I was crushed

@alicitapalomita ...Even better is Gung Ho from around 2000. I like Patti Smith but I am amused by some her notions of herself. I think she's a minor artist but not for the reasons she thinks she is. I don't think her writing is particularly good but the intensity of some of her performances (such as "Free Money" and "Strange Messengers")is where she soars. Her inability to contain her self possession on her best records is what makes her thrilling.

I loved this album it was so grunge it was like WOW. When she wants to do classic rock n roll she rules it. When she wants to do punk she rules it. When she wants to do grunge she rules it. Whatever she touches, she makes amazing. Yo go Patti! F*cking badass and awesome! So inspiring :)
