With the stations Urine Processing Assembly (UPA) and Water Recovery System returned to a fully operational state, the station crew along with support teams on Earth celebrated the success with a toast. Astronauts who helped install the recycling system on the station, as well as flight controllers, engineers and space station program officials involved in the development of the recycling system at the Johnson Space Center in Houston and the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., joined with the crew in a televised exchange to commemorate the start of recycled water consumption in orbit. The system is expected to reduce the amount of water that needs to be delivered to station by about 65 percent.
