For me, Genesis died in 1978. They turned into Phil Collins' pop backing band in the 80s. Totally sold out. Yes, I was fucking angry because I adored Genesis - the whole 5 man 70s package; the eccentricities and all - and to see Collins, Banks and Rutherford sell out they way they did just sickened me. Thereafter, they were Genesis in name only - and I don't want to read some little spotty arsed kid telling me it's all apples and oranges and it IS all Genesis. No it fucking isn't.

They didn't die, at least not quickly. There were some sparks of brilliance that I am glad for. But yes, I'm not sure if tarnishing their memory was worth it. Still, Duke was a fine recording. I only wish all the other good songs would have teamed up and kicked Misunderstanding of the album.

agreed. I thought, though, that there were a couple half-decent ones on the "Duke" album, like the intro/outro pieces, and "Man of Our Times". Oh and later on in their careers - there's always "That's All" JUST KIDDING! Too bad that wasn't a hookah Phil was huffin on at 8:34.
