This is a truly memorable and moving documentary on the social and political problems of Lakota life on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservervation in South Dakota. So many people do not know or understand their way of life. Director Oliver Tuthill shows an un-yielding glance into the Lakota's everyday problems and perseverance in order to survive. He shows the issues factually (such as the mold overtaking their homes, the poverty, and abuse)and lets the viewer see the horrors for themselves. The film is highlighted by insightful interviews by the Lakotas and government officials. After seeing this documentary, one wants to be an activist and try to help make a difference in the hard lives of these remarkable people. This film not only shows the grittiness of their life, but the contrasting richness of their culture, customs, and their will to survive. I would recommend this documentary to anyone who wants to know more about the Lakota way of life as well as be inspired. FOR EDUCATIONAL PUPOSES ONLY NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED DISCLAIMER

  • Thank you for uploading this important video.

This should be seen in every school in every country.

  • My Mother and her brothers and sisters grew up in ABJECT poverty on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation, sometimes living in TENTS -- not cabins -- TENTS. My mother was the first tribal member to receive a master's degree (Univ of Arizona - Urban Planning), her sister was the first PhD in our tribe, my half sister was the first tribal member to receive an MD (Georgetown Univ., then went BACK after getting her MD and got a master's in hospital administration from Harvard). EDUCATION is the way out.

  • It makes me sad to think this culture was almost forgot!

    Lakota 4 ever

  • I know how to build homes from Natural Materials. Build Cob Houses, with Cob Rocket Mass Heaters

  • makes me homesick.

  • Maybe its time for Native American peoples to go back to living with nature, and living off of the land. If Native Americans reclaim their roots, they won't need white mans jobs. They'll have jobs in living off of nature. You hear so many people these days learning to live cheaper and better, with Cob House, Rocket Mass Heaters, Earth Shelters, Pallet Houses, and Straw Bale homes, and those are White people. Native American people know more then any other people about living with nature.

  • they dont let you to help yourselfes ? Help youurself dont cry ! Indians culture isnt about sorrow !

  • @jicarillagurl So you adjusted to the culture of the white hence. They only give you this way out. You lost your original knowledge and only one who is like the white people will have a good life in this world.

  • Long live Russel Means and the Indian people!!! May the Creator give them strength and glory!!!
