This documentary is based on the testimonies of family members of Dr Jaspreet Singh, 22 years, a Dalit student of final year, MBBS at Government Medical College, Chandigarh.
He committed suicide on 27th January, 2008, by hanging himself on the 5th floor of his college's library due to caste-based discrimination by one of his professors.
The professor who was behind this *must* be punished, and punishment must of sufficient severity that others are dissuaded from even thinking on these lines.
But even more important is that, as the family says clearly, the student must not feel isolated and depressed...s/he must be made aware of all the support systems that are in place, both governmental as well as Civil Society.

All these Indians and self proclaimed elitist who believed in caste systems are evil, should take them out one by one...first with rich scumbag Mukesh Ambani, then all those Bollywood posers.

I am a Black American woman and I know how stereotypes and prejudice can hurt and damage the psyche. I feel for this young man and his family. This so called "professor" is an ignorant and unfeeling fool. I hope there are serious repercussions for his odious actions.

this is not a small incident, a shame on Indian society is a big incident.
it needs a revolution to perish inequalities and discrimination. it is urgent to organize and create this revolution.

I cannot feel the pain of this family, it would be much more I can even imagine! I salute (and very much proud of) their spirit of fight, their endurance. Until and unless we will not join the dominate forces will always overpower us.I appeal to all my friends to make forums at all level to fight this discrimination and guide our junior friends how to cope and resist this discrimination. The forums should be active and democratically militant if neccessary! I would also like to thank The Hindu
