@nightowl217 Have you contacted Fiio directly to see if they can help, I have heard that the CmoyBB could drive these headphones (according to JDS Labs), but a Ray Samuels audio sr-71b can definitely drive the hd-650 but it's a quite expensive amp.
Hey just wondering before i make the jump on these... Will my Fiio E10 drive these? I mean, the E10 is rated up to 300ohms, so i figured yes, but i don't know. Help! ^^
@Spartan117FS Yea i also think HD650's are a lot more suitable for some bass heavy music, although HD800's isnt really bad, some people's reviews would make you believe they have no bass. I also think they're a bit too bright, at least for my taste, but thats probably because im too used to HD650's, and almost all headphones i try are bright to me.
I never said they were better. I said that they were different. HD800's offer alot more "open" sound whilst the 650's sound alot more "oppressive". The HD800's are more like speakers IMO, whilst the 650's offer a more standart headphone experience. The HD650's are alot better then the HD800's for certain songs, I prefer to listen to Infected Mushroom with them over any day compared to my HD800's =)
@Spartan117FS I know, but even though the sound signatures are different, HD650's offer 95% of the sound quality HD800's do, especially when used with a high end amp. Its not such a difference in sound quality, its not like you can put both on and say "ok, hd800's are definitely much better".
The HD800 has a completely different sound signature and sounds alot different. I still prefer to listen to certain songs with the HD 650's. Albait my HD 800's are my main headphones.
@marleymusic217 Thats because up until a few years ago HD650's were considered to be one of three best headphones in the world together with Beyerdynamic DT880 and AKG K701, and many people considered HD650's the best. After them, all manufacturers produced new models like T1, HD800, etc., but they aren't such big improvements. They cost 2-3 times more than HD650's, but they maybe 5% better. The only thing you'd really notice when going from 650 to 800 is bigger soundstage and brighter sound.
@EpicShotz75 I have these, and I listen to dubstep and drum n bass a lot. These headphones can handle a very loud volume, with a lot of bass quantity, but most importantly bass Quality. Something more bass heavy headphones do not have (like the dt770 pro). So basically it can handle a lot of bass without distorting, and without the bass bleeding into the mits etc. Oh and it has a pretty 'tight'/'fast' sound, with a kickdrum it goes BOOM not BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, or the even worse BRRWWOOOOOOOOOOOM.
@derbigpr500 As a new HD650 owner (since yesterday only paid 200 dollars) it's good news. But it is kinda weird that something much cheaper can end up sounding (almost) as good as the more expensive upgrade.
That said, the HD650 is a very good headphone with a very natural sound.
I bought the fiio-e9 with the hd650, which is pretty much the cheapest full size amplifier, but it does sound good.
It even makes my dt770 pro(80 ohm) sound much fuller.
