The main difference between religion and philosophy is religion uses mythology, philosophy uses reason.

That said though, modern society is missing out on its poetic elements to life, so while I am not religious, I do see why it has existed for centuries.

Science is only empirical and technical, thus cannot deal with the big and personal questions to life, so while good, isn't everything.

Usually when people say the "big issues of life" they never say exactly what they mean (I imagine because they don't want to be criticised).

And guess what. Neither have you.

Thus rendering your last sentence irrational.

Actually (if you're aware of Kant) it's obvious what I mean, as I am speaking of the classic division of Kant (1781-1808).

By the "big questions" I refer to metaphysics (ontology, cosmology, theology) and Ethics (Pure Practical Reason); both of which natural science cannot answer.

Science cannot answer metaphysics, as experience gives only appearances, not the thing-in-itself.

Science can also never mention ethics since it deals with facts, not oughts (David Hume).

Nice strawman you pulled.

Religion and scripture are two different things. Scripture answeres a lot of questions philosophicaly. Religion on the other hand is an institution which allows people to believe what they like.

aaron...Could it be that religion is institutionalization of a philosophical interpretation of scripture and/or ideology?

Or even a philosophy that allows people to segregate others who think differently than themselves for the purpose of justifying personal and communal prejudices?

I love these comments...what surprises me is the length of the video, and how much depth there is to the comments....suave.
