Geology is very interesting field. Thanks for your very great comments here. I have known more great knowledge. Lava flow is my most favorite for this magnificent video. The marvelous compilation of imagery and music is so impressive as always. Perfect work,Thomas.Unfortunately I did not know what you said in German;-). Keep on great work Thomas..

What I was saying is just what is shown as text below: that this scene was taken at 2800 m above sea level at mount Etna, ...

how close can u get to lava
rrronah 4 years ago
I would recommend to go not too close to the lava to stay save. However, in the case of this video I was quite close about 2 - 4 m. You should always be aware of unstable ground, changing eruption behavior, unexpected outbreaks and change of lava flow directions. Stay save on any volcano!
Another problem of course is the heat which might damage the camera and which is hard to resist when you are so close.

So, are 10 meters good enough?

Depending on the lava flow and what you would like to do but in general I would say 10 meter is close enough for good shots and more or less save. Don't underestimate the heat radiation of a large lava flow!
