The funeral of Minister D.M. Dassanayake, who died in an LTTE terrorist's brutal attack, will take place at the burial grounds at Anamaduwa on Saturday(12/01/2008).
His remains are lying at his residence at Anamaduwa. The body was placed at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour in Colombo from last night up to 9.00 a.m. today. Many parliamentarians paid their last respects.

The minister's remains were taken to Anamaduwa from the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour in a special motorcade this morning. Several parliamentarians joined in this occasion. Civilians who lined the route of the motorcade paid their last respects to the Minister in large numbers. The motorcade up to the Thoppuwa Junction proceeded with the participation of Western Province Parliamentarians, led by Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle. The people of the Province paid their last respects to the Minister at this venue. The remains were received by Parliamentarians of the North Western Province, headed by Ministers Milroy Fernando and Dayasiri Tissera. The motorcade proceeded up to Anamaduwa. The route was bedecked with white flags while large numbers gathered on either side of the route to pay their last respects. Civilians in large numbers paid respects to Minister Dassanayake when the motorcade reached the Chilaw town. A notable feature was the presence of past and present pupils of Ananda Vidyalaya Chilaw, the alma mater of the Minister. It was an arduous task to take the remains to Anamaduwa at the scheduled time due to the large number of people who converged on either side of the route leading to the town. People of the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities irrespective of differences, gathered by the side of the road leading to Periyamadu in Andigama, from where the Minister hailed, to pay their last respects.
