Iran's air force has begun a series of military manoeuvres in the north-western province of East Azerbaijan, state television reported. The war-games, code-named "Blow of Zolfaqar", have in recent weeks involved the regular army and navy. The report said that Iranian fighter planes and bombers successfully struck their designated targets. During the drills, Iran's air defence systems also successfully targeted and destroyed "enemy planes" in radar-blackout areas in Iranian airspace, it said.

reverse engineering, take something apart and work backwards..Iran has aviation, industrial companies but they lack the technology and 'know how'..there a regional power but hardly one at that...peace > war V
I don't think so. The F-14 is one of the most advanced in the world. The U.S got rid of it because they were afraid iran would steal parts. And the AH-1J cobra is still used by the U.S. F-4 is also used by Israel. MiG 29 is used by Russia and also Nato countries. Nothing is obsolete here. All these equipment is still in use by very powerful countries.
I talked to a Iranian guy on military photo that explained to me that the reason they have so much surplus Military U.S. is because when the Shaw was in power Iran was a U.S. Staging area like the Ukraine was for the Soviets. I wonder how much they have left or if they just machine new parts now or what?
Shah was dictator supported by US ,pretty much like Saudi Arabia ,but less religious . I don't know how they repair their military aircraft ,but when last Tu-154 crashed ,they blamed US embargo ,that they cant get parts for repairing .
That''s true, the Shaw Built up the Iranian Military Tremendously. But according to this guy all the parts/ bombs/ etc. used in the eight year war were from a stockpile left by the U.S. had they invaded the USSR thru Iran. I would explain how they keep everything flying/driving if it's true.
