Vikings!
They came from the North and soon the legends would say that they did not know fear. For hundreds of years they were another name for terror.

They sailed icy oceans and narrow rivers striking far inland without warning without mercy. However the truth about the Vikings is far more complex. Much of Europe s traditions technology and institutions come to us from these fierce men of the North.

England Germany Russia along with their homeland of Scandinavia all bear the Viking's mark today.

Shot on location in Iceland Greenland and Newfoundland this breathtaking IMAX® film joins the Viking warriors explorers and settlers as they set out in search of new lands.

The North Atlantic Sagas come to life as we follow Eric the Red and his son Leif Ericsson first to Greenland and then on to North America 500 years before Columbus.

State-of-the-art digital graphics dramatically illustrate the unique shipbuilding techniques that were the key to propelling the Vikings across the Atlantic and into history.Available for the very first time on DVD!

This stunning IMAX® experience comes to your home theater in widescreen anamorphic format with a high definition transfer fro the original 70mm IMAX® film print.

  • In regard to the Americas, the archaeological finds in L'Anse aux Meadows in present-day Newfoundland, Canada (to which the investigators had been led partly by the 16th-century Skálholt Map show that there was a Viking settlement which, while admittedly unsuccessful and short-lived, predates by five centuries John Cabot's landing on the North American continental mainland in 1497 and Christopher Columbus's voyage to South America in 1498.

  • Regardless of whether or not the map is genuine, it has been independently proven to general satisfaction that Greenland was settled by Vikings around 970, a settlement which lasted until the 15th century.

  • HAPPY LEIF ERIKSON DAY!!!!!!!

Remember, THE VIKINGS journeyed to America 500 years BEFORE Columbus. Also, Columbus and the Spanish wiped out a whole race of people. The Vikings did not!

  • Leif eiriksson was norwegian, he had norwegian parents but he was born in iceland.. dont forget that iceland at that time was norwegian land, and all the settlers there was vikings from norway

  • @VikingFromHalland but it wasnt East india so he failed xD

  • @BloodstormGMA but he voyaged to east india aswell not america :D

  • Leifur Eiríksson was Icelandic. He was born in Iceland and his mother, Þjóðhildur, was Icelandic, his father Eiríkur Rauði was Norwegian. Leifur would probably have considered him self as a Greenlander where he lived most of his life.

  • Ah, feels good to be Norwegian :)

  • For the "making of" portion to the movie there is a really epic song that plays, featuring a choir, does anyone know the name of that song or the artist/composer??

  • Have you noticed how the Viking Ship looks strangely similar to the Loch Ness Monster?

Could it be that these Vikings had seen such creatures and then made their boats in their likeness?

  • ‘Viking’ comes from a language called ‘Old Norse’ and means ‘a pirate raid’.

  • @recaredo02 that has to be the worst comment I've ever seen on youtube... ever!!

  • JUST VISITING! THE VIKINGS WE'RE ROUTED FROM CANADA! The seaworm ate their boats like nothing in under 6 months time! the curse from the north was no match for canada's 1st nations peoples nor their lack of adaptiveness to climate change! they came to america cause their ships were sinking en mass. the vikings were cursed by the gods and they knew it! beware the kraken!
