India in 1947: Srinagar, Kashmir

What do people, who were very young remember about 1947, the year India became a free country? Often, the accounts/narratives that we read are from the point of view of leaders, policy makers and others. But, what do regular folks remember?

In this video clip Nirmal P, recollects and shares her family's experience in Srinagar, Kashmir in 1948. While she does not recollect what happened on August 15, 1947...she vividly recollects October 1948. That was when she and her family left Srinagar and went to Jammu. This was when the first undeclared war between India and Pakistan took place over Kashmir.

At this moment pakistan is not strugling for kashmir to be a part of pakistan.. we are strugling for freedom of our muslim brothers which are living in kashmir... Pakistan and pakistanies want kashmiries to get there right of decision that they was to be a free state or wanna be a parf of india or Pakistan....

Kashmir was nobody`s fathers property.. who ever was the king of kashmir he had no right to sale it to any goverment for his personal interust.. kashmir was a free state and by agreement it was suppose to be a part of pakistan .. but indian took advantage of unarmed poor muslim kashmiries and accupied jamu and kashmir..

Alright here comes the truth in her discustion... even tho she was trying to take india`s side.. she said in sri nagar muslims were in majority! .... this was the deal decision between asians and britains that which areas have majority of muslims will be pakistan or the mejority area of hindus will be india..

yes we all wants peace in kashmir but i want to know that why pakistan army tried to capture kashmir when king of kashmir still thinking about future of kashmir ..........Pakistan always do tiht thts why INDIA has to come in between otherwise if pak didn't tried to capture kashmir in 1948 thn we already had a solution....

She speaks mostly the truth, but some of the words she uses like "Mohammadans" -- is just plain retarded -- who on this Earth doesnt know that we call ourselves MUSLIMS?? I think it's the direct influence of the British on her, and Indians of her generation -- since they used that term for us.
