Filmed over the course of three months, Kayan Beauties is a feature-length fiction narrative that follows three Kayan women and a girl from their remote hillside village in eastern Myanmar to the distant city of Taunggyi, where they decide to go to sell their handicrafts. When the girl is kidnapped by human traffickers in the city, the three women begin their search.
Produced, directed, shot and edited by Aung Ko Latt, the film is an all-Burmese production, except for a collaboration with its American screenwriter and co-producer, Hector Carosso. Kayan Beauties was the first feature film in Myanmar to be shot in high definition, in this case, using the Sony HDW-F900R CineAlta HD camera.
Editing work was done in Yangon, and post-production lab work is expected to be completed in Bangkok in May 2011.
