@SaySumtin90 Christopher Reeve was originally offered this role for $ 1,000,000,00 & he declined. a coincidence. he also auditioned for pretty woman & he walked out of the audition screaming in anger. i miss the guy.

As much as I like Gosling, he just doesn't posses the "Zen," the Dharma that Gere has! Richard Gere in "American Gigolo" reminds me of a totally pure, Cassavettes-esque Cinéma vérité style of acting that may not be possible to recreate in this day and age... Watch Ben Gazzara in "Chinese Bookie" for another clear-cut example of what I'm talking about!

PLEASE!!!!!!! will someone in the movie industry do a modern version of this movie. It would be hard to outdo Richard Gere but it would be fun to see them try.

It would be incredibly difficult to improve upon Schrader's minimalist tribute to Bresson. IMO, the only suitable heir would be Alexander Payne. After all, they did attend the same film school...
For the lead (this is fantasy time), I would anoint Clive Owen. IMO, the only (current) pretty boy actor with the chops (and zen enough) to pull off Julian Kaye/Michel.
