problem is new york city has had budget problems forever. these type of places need funding. and these places dont make a profit. you have dedicated employees who pride themselves on the historica experience they offer. But unless you have the school system hauling bus loads of tired cranky kids who just want out of the classroom, what do you have? parents today dont teach their children to appreciate a historical experience. kids would rather see a movie, go to the arcade or carnival.

Sorry, but my experience was different. A small but nice outdoor museum about the Dutch colonial period at 1600. Especially the Voorlezerhouse.

The place is falling apart. The grounds are dirty and the houses are falling apart. The facilities dept should be ashame of themselves.
Go to the Staten Island Zoo it a lot better.
