Methane isn't treated as the bigger problem because Methane does it's entirety of damage in something like 10-15 years. CO2, on the other hand, spreads that out over centuries.
Which is why it's usually given priority.

Kangaroos metabolize their digestive waste gases and use it for energy, releasing essentially no methane. Imagine how much greener we could be if people ate kangaroos instead of cows.

Supposedly cows are big producers of methane, but a lot of that is because commercial farms feed them corn, which cows can't fully process. Cows who live on grain don't produce anywhere near as much methane.

CO2 and soot are linked quite often though (such as in coal-fired power plants), so addressing one also addresses the other. Methane might be more of a separate issue.
