it's not about penetration.. it's about over penetration.. you have a better idea.. of your home environment.
usually when u have a home invasion you dont want to take chances with your life. or your family's life. generally u want to stop the intruder dead in his tracks. and he might be high on drugs or drunk on shiskey or violent with hate and rage! and maybe wants to rape! or torture! or kill! so my advice is use 00 buck... stop the threat dont scare the threat.. put him down quick.

@592Daman you can't use fmj in a house because it will overpenetrate and go straight through the target. possibly hitting a loved in another room
