  • Very stirring! My GGGrandfather was Emanuel Houston Mitchell. Private, 3rd Kentucky Cavlary. Gen. John Hunt Morgan's command. POW in Camp Chase Ohio and Camp Douglass Illinois. Captured during one of many raids into Ohio.

  • @joecmoore2 Camp Douglas? Lucky to make it out alive.

  • Sad that some of those items are on auction websites, when they should be in museums.

  • @joecmoore2 God Bless the Kentuckians....Orphans one and all! My GGGrandfather was John James Price. Corporal of Co. L, 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. He, His Brother and future Brother in Law were all recruited by Basil Duke on Aug 9th of '62. Captured in late '64 and held until May of '65 in Camp Morton, Indianapolis, Indiana.

  • @joecmoore2 God bless you & to the memory of your great great grandfather Emanuel Houston Mitchell. Do you consider joining the Sons of Confederate Veterans?

My great great grandfather as well as his brothers were with the 37th Mississippi Infantry. They were captured and sent to Camp Douglas as well as your ancestor. One of them, my great great uncle William Jackson Tims died in the cruel condition of the stockade. There is still a small shard of that Chicago winter of 1865 in our blood.

  • GGGGrandfather was Pvt. F.M. Gore, rode with the 4th TN Cavalry, Co. D. Several trips through Kentucky with Gen. John Hunt Morgan. Unfortunately no further information on his wartime experiences

  • gggrand uncle was caught at the battle of boonsboro ky got put in camp douglas died of starvation

  • Joseph Jubal Hall, 7th WV Cavalry U.S. veteran 1863, GGG grandfather

  • @eringobragh915 My collateral ancestor, a 2d great grand uncle, grandfather's maternal side, did not make it out alive. Died at Camp Douglas 28 JUN 1865. He was 18 years old. He had served with the 42d Tenn. Inf and the 55th Ala Volunteers. He had been elected Sergeant by his men in 1864. He was present for duty in 1865. Don't know yet how he was captured or if he was offered the Oath of Allegiance to sign.

  • The disliker must be a Yankee !!!
