This is some gameplay footage of me playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night ont he Xbox 360 via Konami Classics Vol. 1. This comes on a disk with Super Contra and Frogger. I'm not a fan of downloading games myself, but this version is identical to the one you can download off of XBLA. I still also have the original on t he PS1.

In this footage, I'm showing off the devistating combo of Shield Rod, and the Alucard Shield. For those of you who may not know about this trick (and most of those who have played this game for years should know it), you equip the shield rod in one of Alucrad's hands, and the Alucard Shield in the other. then you press the X-button and the B-button (square and circle on the PS1 version) at the same time to activate the shield rod's power, and turn the Alucard Shield into the most devastating offensive weapon in the game. You don't have to play this way, and can choose to fight the bosses legit if you want to, and I normally do, but I'm showcasing this ability for the vid. This also comes in handy when power-leveling in the game.

In the upside-down castle, activating this ability and running through clearing the hallways on each side of the clock room gains you an insane amount of levels in a very short time.

As for the 360 version, the d-pad does present some problems, but overall it still plays pretty good on the 360's pad. Sometimes I have trouble getting the spells like Souls Steal to work, but overall, it's not as bad as you may think. I do, however have the habit of throwing the special items (hitting up and attack) when I'm trying to attack sometimes. Perhaps a good 3rd party controller with a better d-pad would work better for this game.

If you for some stupid reason missed playing this game the first time around, or were stupid enough to sell it, I can't recommend this game highly enough. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and is an absolute classic. This is a must-play for all gamers.

  • i just luv alucard man.he's soo epic

  • @ProkoLokor And to tell you the truth richter's sprite didn't have many diferences from the other versions. At least i don't remember serious animation problems, and i think that on psp its the same version as XBLA with all the extra characters like maria, you can also fight with maria when you meet her to give you the holly glasses, plus that you can use the hidden characters from the begining. And the loading times are almost not exist.

  • @ProkoLokor Well its not onl about richter's sprite, don't forget the couple extra areas and some bosses that they have make in saturn! I will never understand why they didn't get to the trouble to make that version on psp and XBLA,honestly i believe that they have some serious issues there. We all know that was an exclusive for saturn but sega saturn have finished with its glorious days, now we all have new consoles that they can easily make an HD remake with those features as well.

  • @youtoubakias Um... nope! Which is kind of sad really. And I don't know why Konami can't fix Ritcher sprite to look like his portrait icon. He does in Saturn version but PS1, XBLA and PSP? Forget it.

Anyways, XBLA improved mainly on cutting of loading screens there's pretty much no loading in the game whatsoever.

  • I hope that is not rare to get it for PSX, (i have Castlevania Chronicles) because i never played before. In fact my very first Castlevania was on GBA Circle of the moon and Harmony of dissonance. Only i don't have Aria of Sorrow for GBA. I don't bother with PS2 games anymore in stores, but today i spot Castlevania Curse of Darkness and i pay 10€ for it. Finally i find it.

  • On the xbox i have heard that its slight better than the original from ps3 i wonder if this is the saturn version!

  • How different is this from the PS version?

  • @PrinceXTC86 Well, it has a lot more content and stuff to do than Lords Of Shadow... it's ten times longer with more story, a full-blown RPG-system with millions of items and equipment to use, leveling up/stats system, tons of secret stuff like hidden areas to explore, no stages but a huge freely explorable Dracula's castle which you need to complete "twice" to get the real ending, the second version being the same but with new enemies and the castle being "upside down", and the BEST music ever.

  • @PrinceXTC86 2D games can be better then 3D games. It is possible. Graphics aren't everything.

  • The game really starts to get fun once you get all of the cool powers and weapons.
