Comparable to the time you fill using petrol will be a winning selling point. Global Warming is almost solved so boycott the expensive petrol car and lets change this bloody culture! This will have the effect of calling for a greener grid simultaneously...!

Ya, but electric cars won't be practical until they can be charged in like 10 minutes! Oh, wait... oops.

Technology of high power charging might be very interesting in order to allow short time refills - as indicated - for fleets (my fleet favorite here is car-sharing). In any way the concept of loading EV's has to be aligned with sustainalble concepts of generating, storing and supplying electrical energy in power grids. I'd like to see the involvement of more buffers (like redox flow cells) and de-centralized power generators (like local photovoltaic and wind converters).

IIRC the altairnano batteries get 20,000 cycles. check wikipedia to make sure I got that right.
To solve your concern about somebody taking your charge while you're eating. They could require a key to release the cable or stop charging upon ejection.

Turn electric substations into electric car fueling stations.

If you are interested in electric vehicles please search all of the parts (~5) that make the documentary about "Eliica" (a japanese electric car, capable to outrun a porsche 911 on the quarter mile. In that documentary you will find out that in China they are allready using electric Taxi cars.
If I could charge a car overnight for 300KM of autonomy that would be great. People drivind 10-30 miles daily from/to work should embrace this.

it would probably make it as an addon to a gas station... they would charge a service charge plus energy fee. that would be cool... but to leave ur car to get lunch thats begging someone else to plug in their car with ur charge =p. i would really like to see answers to some of the battery longevity questions in relation to using such a high powered charge on the battery.

By the time you get your food you're ready to hit the road. Great Idea.

i don't think this is intended or home charging. Cheaper units would be reserved for the home.
this is really cool! of course, it is not in the US.
How many KW are you pulling when you are rapid charging? 18KWh in 10min is ...
18KWh/10min x 60 min/h = 108KW
That is some serious power, but manageable from an infrastructure stand point. However, to pull that kind of power from the grid in your home is problematic.

Hi Steffen,
You're right, the charging power is 150 kW, which require special charging equipment connected to a strong grid-connection point. Thus fast-charging in "filling-stations", but the car may also be slow-charged over night from a normal socket in your garage.
In an early phase this type of battery and fast-charging make it possible for taxis and other fleets of vehichles to operate around one or a few fast-charging points and do their service with zero emissions.
