Properly pruned grape vines develop more new growth each year, but cutting back most of the new growth in the dormant period encourages even more lush growth. Keep grape vines maintained and properly trimmed with instructions from a sustainable gardener in this free video on gardening.

  • Thank you very much that was a great explanation of how to prune a grape vine. I have two grape trees 3 years old grape vines. I have prune them every year but you just showed me i was doing it wrong. Thanks again

  • Finally a video I can use.

  • Yolanda, what are the printed materials that you are referring to? That looks like its part of a larger book that may be a relevant read.

  • Try spraying your grape plant with water a few time a day for a few days and if that doesn't work try coffee grounds around the base to stop slugs or spray with anytype of natural oil like vegetable or olive oil mixed 50% with water. Thanks!

  • Hi Yolanda,During the month of August or Sept my grape tree leaves looks like its being eaten away. I remember in Italy my Grandmother used to put sulfur on the grape tree, What do you suggest? Thank You GGP

  • Thanks for the comment. As a Master Gardening graduate I followed the recommendations and book from the WSU Master Gardening Program from the department of agriculture. Please post any advice you would like to share. Thanks! It is greatly appreciated.

  • This person is clueless. What credentials does she have to teach this? She clearly has NO IDEA WHAT SHE'S TALKING ABOUT!!!!

  • I just wanted to say "Thank you for posting this video! It was exactly what I wanted to know",

and I think I am a little late for pruning, but I'm going to give it a go, and when they start growing we'll see how good of a YouTube student I really was ^_^ Thanks...

P.S. Yes you can start new shoots from the trimming, but it works best when they aren't dormant and dead looking =)
