This is a brief tutorial on how to install Mac OS X (10.5.6) onto a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v using two USB Flash Drives. You must own a Retail copy of Mac OS X (10.5.6) in order to perform this installation as an OEM version that came with your Apple computer will NOT work.

  • Great Video. The echo is somewhat annoying, but I just blocked it out after a while. Your video resolution is great. How did you record the video? What camera did you use?

  • I used a Canon XHA1 HD Video Camera. I was new to videos at the time and was commenting as I was going. I thought my video editor had muted the original sound, but I was a n00bi3 and this is what it was. I had fun performing the hack, now onto something else.

  • Where do you get the retail copy of Mac?

  • Apple store

  • What version of BIOS were you using? I have A06. Do I need to rollback? Also, do I NEED 2 usb sticks or will just 1 do the job?

  • I sold the unit, but I believe that A06 was the BIOS version I had. Yes you do need two because the smaller one holds the Boot Loader. Once you boot to that then you select the drive (81) to install the OS from. You could use just one USB flash drive, but then you will need the external USB CD/DVD drive to install the OS from the DVD (Retail Version 10.5.1 or later only)

  • You can install Mac OSX on allot of netbooks with the hackintosh stick available on ebay, if you search ebay for Hackintosh its one of the top items with the picture of a snow leopard, i did it on my dell mini 10v and its brilliant!

  • is this now booting OSX as the delfault OS

  • I got out of bed for this :)

  • where did you get the bootloader?

  • hey man how ya going? thanks for the great tutorial. i have one problem though.

when i get to the setup after booting from an external hard drive, i cant see my laptops hard drive. im running windows 7 with my hard drive split into 2 partitions (140gb NTFS and 20gb FAT32) do i need to format my hard drive and get rid of windows completely? or make it a single partition?

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. thankyou in advance.

  • Echooooo!!

  • @gtx265 10.6 is 30buck!

  • Ow sorry... thought you were talking about legal/illegal.

  • You can say folks have to buy the retail version, but that's still not going to work for Apple, since they make no profits off selling their OS.

If you don't want trouble, just tell folks just to test this.

Not that that makes a difference, but saying that you can't get it done without a retail version is just a blatant lie.
