You'll break you drill very fast using it that way. Drill is adjusted only to axial load

I hadent thought of that - maybe wrapping sandpaper around it or something would ease the load?

yep,he's right.If ya wanna do that sort of thing,get yourself a cheap ass hammer drill(not set to hammer).Cause if you keep doing it that way,you will create alot of slop in the bearings,and could damage them.
Also if you wrap the paper around the item you reduce this about 90%. I use this method occasionly to reduce the diameter of steel.
