Also a quick update:
The new record for our area is 18.56 which is held by Congo. The previous champ who had 19.03, Allen, has yet to challenge the time due to an injury from a crash during a downhill descent.

What exactly is the thing called that they are riding on? I am thinking of getting one so that I can ride during the winter more.

they are referred to as rollers. The fork mount is optional. they usually come with a front roller so it takes some practice to balance and ride on it.
