  • my friend & I were together 9 years before he died just after reaching 30... we loved long drives thru the south together... i had alot of trouble really finding a song to memorialize him until his best friend turned me on to this sad song shortly after his death. it remindes me of the joy & peace he found working on that old corvette putting the top down & heading south.

  • Sounds like heaven.

  • I'm in this video

  • Switchin' over to AM....

  • Anyway, this is my favorite Son Volt song. It takes me back to my band days and even though our split was amicable, I would love to restart the group.

As for the whole Wilco/Son Volt comparison, Wilco's famous for the "Mermaid Avenue" CDs, but Son Volt also covered some Woodie Guthrie. They did a great job on Guthrie's "I've Got to Know".

  • I used to be in a covers band and this was one of the songs we played. We were a family band (and with 2 brother-sister pairs too!). Here's our line up for this song:

My brother Paul: Lead vocal, mandolin.

    Me: Bass: harmony vocal.

    My cousin Cindy: violin.

    My cousin Jack: acoustic guitar.

    My cousin Chris: lead guitar.

    My cousin Jerry: drums.

Cindy and Jack are brother and sister and are my paternal cousins.

Chris and Jerry are brothers and are my maternal cousins.

  • Don't ask me why this song just popped into my head, or why I am replying so long after your post. First of all, I am sorry for your loss and hope things have gotten better for you. Not that there is any schedule, because there isn't. I really liked Son Volt and was fortunate enough to see them as an opening act for John Hiatt. Be well, young lady.

While always excited about another Son Volt fan I just am a bit perplexed by this comment. Jay Farrar is probably as big of a departure from a regular guy as you will ever find and the fallout from Uncle Tupelo which led to the formation of Son Volt and Wilco is your every day VH1 rock star drama. They also are not a country group so hence the lack of country attire. At any rate glad you like the song :)

  • Song for the Day - do you know son volt? although this video is not highest quality, the song is so amazing...and it's message is what I wish for you today.

  • @doomsdaydave11 And no backup dancers! Ha!

  • This is amazing. I love how these are just regular guys, there for the music. No act; they're just up there to share it. No fancy clothes, no ridiculous country-star outfits.

  • i am 14 and i love this band my dad got me in to them i sleep to this song sometime dad seen yall live this is the only rly country music out thire i lissend to ur old band and now this band keep it up
