HIstorical recording of 1940.Rachmaninov loved this his piece so very much. And so do I! Horowitz in the memory of his friend gave an absolutely outstanding record of it - it's already on YouTube.

  • Hard to describe how beautiful! He takes you to an extraordinary state where there are only feelings and emotions that captivate. You hear him, his pain, his sadness and his joy!

    Rachmaninoff is eternal

  • I cried two years ago when I first heard it... so I opened it now again and burst into tears... This moment drives me too nervous and mad... I will never open it again because our ears are too filthy to listen to this inhuman piece...

  • Incomparable!

Perfect shaping and musical argument with the utmost sense of good taste.

Others might acceptably play this differently, but not better.

  • @Bret6464

Nah, to be honest I think anything besides the Russian spelling is "wrong", heh.

I just found it interesting because I've never seen anyone spell it as "Serguey" lol.

  • @keetner He spelled it "Serguey", one of many, "Sergey", and Sergei is how Rachmaninoff spelled it after he came to live in the U.S. Spelling doesn't matter, this is the most surreal performance ever of Rach's Moments, then again it is Rach performing :-))

  • Surguey?

  • This is excellent, it feels like the pianist really understands what the composer intended. Oh, wait a minute...

  • Epic!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! FABULOUS music making....E.Bice, Vienna

  • thank you for posting this, it is my all time favorite piece for piano, and I am completely in love with the version by arcadi volodos, which comes rather close to the intentions of mr. Rachmaninov himself! I find this recording sublime, thank you!
