After learning that school-age children only learn for 18% of their day, Dr. Dennis Bartels formed Exploratorium, where he aimed to fill that fill that learning void. With a studio instead of a classroom and a learning manager instead of a teacher, Bartels designed a school program where the first four hours of a school day are spent in a 'studio' and the second four hours are spent at museums, afterschool programs, and the like, where students get to explore their own interests and passions.
