Kawaida was an odd session that was originally released on the O'be label, then Trip (two versions, one listed as by Herbie Hancock titled Traces?), and then on CD released in Germany. Some nice spiritual jazz business going on here.

  • No, sorry - you can even see when I set the tone arm down it's on the second track on the first side. Mine's an original pressing - there are a few more (on Trip and a german CD) maybe with titling errors.

You can also hear the vocalists sing Mah-uh-la-naahhhh which is kind of a hint ;)

  • Just as you get into the tune, it abruptly ends. What happened? The sound of the record player arm and needle ends this great song.

  • Maulana by Mtume

  • one of my favorite jazz records of all time. i've got an original pressing, too.

  • That tune is called "Baraka" and is the first track of the album.
