A video showing the creation of a simple Automator Service with the tools built into Apple OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

A simple Service is created to first copy a picture file, and then convert the copy into a JPEG file.

Once the service is created, it is demonstrated on a PNG file located on the desktop. It is only a case of right-clicking on the existing file to find the new Service at the bottom of the menu. It is possible to do the same with a group of images selected, rather than just the one file used in this example.

Finally, using GetInfo, it is possible to see the difference in file size between the original PNG image (225KB), and the newly created JPEG version (41KB).
