I got Sony Vegas 7 when my Dad bought a HD camera, and I have found it a very useful tool, especially when making videos for youtube.
I made this tutorial on how to make a video using the programme as a bit of an experiment. It's a nice change from Source SDK tutorials and this video would actually help my MUM if she wasn't better at using this programme than I was. However, I'm sure there are plenty of other Mums out there who need helping when it comes to putting holiday clips on the internet- as well as thousands of people trying to make the next big computer game movie.
This tutorial only shows the basics, I don't like to over complicate tutorials, especially when people are finding a programme intimidating enough to use in the first place. I may make more, depending on how this video is received.
RENDER TYPES
256 kbps - renders at 320 x 240, it's also fuzzy and blocky, but will be fine for normal camera footage. Sound is also slightly muffled. But you can make a 10 minutes film about 10 mb in size, so it's useful.
512 kbps - Double the size of 256 kbps, but it's slightly sharper and the sound is much clearer.
3 mbps - 6 times larger than 512 kbps, but the quality is far better. It's actually clearer than television footage, and I would recommend it for computer game recordings and HD footage when you're not really that bothered with the quality.
4.2 / 5 / 6 mbps - 1280 x 720 resolution, also known as 720p, also used with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. It's not the highest resolution in the world, but for youtube I doubt that anybody would benefit from any higher, as recording and displaying at higher resolutions leads to slowdown. 1280 x 720 is clear enough to show HD footage and tutorials like this one.

Could I make 100 minute movie in Sony Vegas? Rendering is my big problem and choosing proper format. Let's say that up to 4GB of space can be satisfying, but what to do with video quality and time for render and 100% consumption of CPU? Any ideas? :)

What's the question? Hard to understand your comment. 5 Mbps video quality would be about 4 GB of space for 100 minutes. You can press ctrl+alt+delete on your pc, go to processes and set sony vegas priority to low and it won't slow your pc down.

5 Mbps of video, music and effects in .wmv format? And what about time? If I set priority to low, it would last forever. =)
Thanks for your answer.

It won't slow it down much. Doesn't matter how many effects or music you add, 5 Mbps will be fixed.

Click on a bit of the video and click 's' to make a split in the video. You can then mute one part of it.

Hello there, is it possible to mute just some parts of the video, or do you have to mute the whole video?

This is for people who get an error while compiling:
When you click ''render as'' go to customize, and choose ''render using CPU only'' or something like that on the buttom
