It would also be good to point out that it looks like it's missing a few segments.

not to be an ass.. but the 5 segments on his rattle doesn't mean he's 5.. rattlesnakes can shed up to 7 times their first year leaving a new segment after each shed.. over the years they also lose segments. because he is that short I'd guess he was a younger specimen. Also that was a western diamondback< that applies to the guy below me stating it was a mojave.
