Candidate for Mayor John Avalos describes how his neighborhood (94112) is disproportionally affected by Wall St's financial collapse. Families of the 99% have lost their homes and jobs due to bank foreclosures and greed and wonder why the government bails out the 1%?
Supervisor Avalos proposes a Municipal Bank in San Francisco in order to leverage the economic might of San Francisco's tax base to help working family households to avoid defaults.
An SF Bank could underwrite loans and mortgages for local businesses and homeowners, helping San Francisco to survive the economic collapse.
In the short term, Supervisor Avalos wants to bring leverage to bear against Wall St. banks through divestment into local financial institutions that will support San Francisco's 99%, not Wall Street.
