They probably cranked the damage to max and it was his finishing super so yes, it would have killed him. Besides, he had lower than half on his yellow health bar, which is what counts. 6 hit combo and then finishing special on a half health character will kill them 8) Not to mention the fact that Ryu is one of the most powerful characters in the game. You think that's ridiculous, you may want to check Tekkaman or Hurricane Polymar.

If you think that's bad, there's a video of Ryu doing a 31 hit combo that K.O'ed the other guy who had about 85% of his life left.
