Having seen some reviews, we started watching this on PBS with some misgivings, but I said "Pinafore is impossible to ruin." Alas, I was wrong. They've junked the Sullivan music in favor of an ABBA-type score. Ouch!

This Pinafore is such a total piece of crap I don't even want to waste time commenting but it sucks so that I feel forced to do so. Original music is completely altered by addition of beat driven rhythms that sounds like a score took a dump. As a result, the tempo of the vocal lines are slowed down to a point where they lose any sense of proportion. The vocal parts are miserably handled, the choreography; complex but stupid; the chorus, an undernourished joke, Total failure!!
