The ending cursed me to a 9 year feeling that this movie never ended -_-

@zombiefan011 I never read the book so I didn't know that. It doesn't really matter tho, because its the movies that I grew up with, not the book. I just saw this as a bastardization of a classic movie that totally missed the point of its predecessor. I do, however, still prefer the twist of the movie over the book. Nothing rivals the shock of finding out that he was on future Earth the whole time. Apes being aliens kinda ruins it for me a bit, but maybe that's just me. Thanks for the info tho

@gplus46 Oh and the best part about Rise? It has ZERO connection to the remake. Almost as if it never existed (that's a win in my book). Lots of people don't understand that tho and insist that the two are connected and try to rationalize the remake's horrid ending with the way Rise ends... not gonna say anything, just be sure to watch during the credits. These people are knows as "idiots" btw XD

@gplus46 kinda hard to answer since conquest is the "alternate timeline" version of Rise. Rise is the "real" version of what happened. Cornelius and Zira almost directly refer to the events of Rise in Escape from the PotA tho if that helps. But there are direct references to the original here (sorry if this is a spoiler for you, but its a minor point in the movie) Heston's ship and its failed mission to Mars is directly referenced for example. There's many more. Pay close attention ;)

Good to know. WIthout spoiling it, are all the references to the original or does it include some references to Conquest?

@gplus46 Rise was excellent imo. I went in expecting to hate it after seeing the hack job that was the 2001 remake, but I came out very pleased. Its a fitting prequel to the original (complete with many, perhaps TOO many, nods to the original). Its smart, edgy and has a lot of heart. Its a very different film than the trailers would make you believe. I recommend you go check it out. If you are an original Apes fan, you should enjoy it. Also leads into the original quite well

PotA was cutting edge in so many respects. And I'm not sure how ppl manage to make a movie worse than the original. But at the very least it showed what doesn't work. But apes, computers, the living dead and aliens taking over the world will continue to capture the imaginations of humans, and I'm sure more bad seeds will follow. I hope you are there to review them all LOL.
As for "Rise..." I look forward to seeing it now that its on Netflix.

@gplus46 What most people seem to not understand about the original is that its much more than your run of the mill sci fi movie. Theres a very large amount of subtext and social commentary that is largely ignored in the remake. Theres themes of slavery, religious dogma, political ideologies and whatnot that make the original much deeper than most give it credit for. Burton turned it into just some mindless action movie with a lame ass copycat twist. I'm glad they got it right with Rise

If they read your disclaimer they may give the original a shot. But I was pretty well primed for my personal return to the PotA. I think a younger generation may find the original less attractive due to special effects, and more importantly lack of philosophical interest/exposure. The most salient distinction is the language disparity only considered in the original, which you've examined appropriately in your review.

@gplus46 Thanks. I really do hope that at the very least, this movie or even my little show here to a certain extent, will make MORE people interested in the original. As a rule of thumb, one can't truly appreciate or dislike a remake without knowing the original. Anyone who has watched this without giving the original a chance due to its age is doing themselves a huge disservice. Fans of this owe it to themselves to seek out the original, if only to see how a GOOD movie is made :p
The remake may have a similar ending to the original novel by Pierre Bouille, but the entire reason why he ended the novel that way is not even hinted at in the entirety of the remake. The 'twist' is there simply because it was expected to have one, not because it made any sense

@Numinous20111 Amen, that is the EXACT reason I hate the ending too. Like, they just said to themselves "well, the most famous thing about the original was its final moments and its twist, so we just GOTTA put one in there!" Pointless. I don't mind a twist as long as it has actual thought involved and it works within the film's story, this didn't do either of them.
