you have to remember the era, it was a time where people had to come to terms with the concept that man could kill off all of mankind within hours.

Times haven't changed anything in regards to the fact that in 50 minutes or less, people could find themselves on the endangered species list. What has changed, is that people have become complacent and believe that it can't happen. Which is kind of funny, because they also believe the rapture will occur in their lifetime. Go figure.
