Home Footage of Manston in 1955 by a American Tech Rep. During the Cold War of the 1950s, the United States Air Force used Manston as a Strategic Air Command base for its fighter and fighter-bomber units.
The USAF withdrew from Manston in 1960, and the airfield became a joint civilian and RAF airport, employed for occasional package tour and cargo flights, alongside its continuing role as an RAF base.
Great!........wish I could jump into the film. ;)

What a great video...I love this stuff! I see you got some F-84s and a T-33 thrown in to boot! Plus...great choice of music. In a strange coincidence of sorts, I used Pat Metheny for my vintage Sabre footage (I think I've linked to it??) as well!

I lived in the village of Garlinge nearby in the 1950's, and went to school with some of the American children. So, if you are out there - Mark and Robin (brothers), Jimmy and Belinda - I remember you after all these years. I am amazed to see this film.

Great stuff, but this footage appears to be a compilation of years, not just 1955.
The Super Sabres are F-100D variants and the first didn't fly until 1956. Furthermore, right at the end of the film are the "Skyblazers" aerobatic team with F-100Cs which flew them during 1959-61.

Great footage. Shame the airport is now only used by a few ageing cargo flights a daily flight to Edinburgh and a dump for old jumbo's. Funny the locals still moan at the noise...

You should update the description - Manston is no longer an RAF base. The former RAF base is now land owned by the Ministry of Defence. They use it for the Air Training Corps (Air Cadets), and Firefighting training. There is still a range and gym etc

Rare scenes, or what! Fantastic. Even a B-36 half way through. Just spent a couple of days in Kent, staying at a hotel alongside Manston airport. Place is like a graveyard for old cargo 747's.
