  • Been a J Hall fan for 30yrs and he is still the best. not a fan of his newish effects interest tho. anybody know what guitar he is playing here? not his usual fare but could be his old es175 tho it does not look dark enough... borrowed?

  • Dear bdcruzer about the guitar Jim Hall was using during his performance here I am with all the info. Actually the Gibson es-175 he was playing was not his old one but the one he was lent by Mr Giovanni Monteforte (an Italian Guitar player from Milan). On that night Jim explained his guitar was stilla t the airport coming from I don't remember where...That's why the guitar's colour seems so light.

    Bye

  • The guit got a strange sound cause I was recorded with a digit camera...Think Jim was using the Super Octaver effect though.

  • I guess he uses a Digitech Whammy to create this sound...

Look on other St Thomas performances (in trio), you can see him shortly working on a red pedal on the chair or table next to him.

I guess he owns a chorus pedal as well... :-)

  • ...e io c'ero!!! =)

  • What kind of effect is he using

  • love to see him and sonny get back together. they're both still playing great.

  • It makes his guitar sound like steel drums to get that real authentic island sound.

  • The Giovanni Monteforte's guitar it is not a Gibson E-175 but a GIBSON-L4 (Custom Shop 1987)

  • Thats Sonnys favorite !

  • Man what a player!!! Long Live Jim

  • Tommbil, thanks, I thought I had heard something like that. Have you ever checked out "Live", old album with Don Thompson on bass. my favorite JH album. tho I just picked up an unknown double album with Ron Carter, live at Village West. nice
