Gameplay from Crazy Kong, a 1984 Donkey Kong clone by Supersoft, playing on the Commodore 64 8 bit vintage home computer. Retro Gaming.

This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability.
It's more a case of me speaking my thoughts while playing the games, many for the first time, and most for the first time in a very long time... so it's all a little spontaneous and random.
Predictably, as I never practice before recording, I usually play very badly.

Given that I am playing many of these games for the first time, and everything I say is completely off the cuff, you probably shouldn't take what I say overly seriously. The opinions that I express are my feelings at the time, but it's entirely possible that they would be different if I were to take the time to get to grips with the game.

However, given that these videos are intended to show that "first time experience", I believe they have some validity or merit.

  • Collision detection looks pretty shoddy, even for a game this old...

  • @PixelOutlaw Yeah, it's not great. I think the biggest problem was more to do with the hight and distance of the jump though.

  • Amazing how you can actually make me watch this game longer than I ever managed to play it. Back in the day I tried to avoid loading this up as much as possible.

  • @markvergeer Aww.. it's not *that* bad. Well... it is.... but it's funny for being so bad :)

  • That's a terrible port of the arcade game. Crazy Kong was an arcade that was licensed by Nintendo for some markets outside the US.

  • Looks a bit like he's hoovering up the barrels at 0:58.

  • Wow, this game manages to be an affront to all six of my senses. That's a remarkable achievement.

  • I think i would love this game actually Steve i could see myself playing it a lot and getting killed a lot too lol.

  • Yikes... awful hit detection on those jumps. The epic hit detection is what makes Donkey Kong so good.

  • @Mcsleeve Ah yes, Microdeal were the main games publisher on the Dragon. They tended to license US made games from the Tandy CoCo and rebranded them as Cuthbert games on the Dragon... hence Cuthbert never looking the same twice :)

  • @SteveBenway I don't if it was connected to robin hood, but I do recall it been done by Microdeal. They also did a various no of my fav games for the Dragon 32, such as Airball, Shock Tropper and Module Man.

  • @atombat Ummm... bunch of cats in the back ally, I think ;)
