WriteOutdoors.com hits the water with walleye professional Jon Thelen of Lindy Fishing Tackle as he demonstrates how to locate and catch midsummer walleye when the weather is more suitable for catching a tan than walleye. Also from Lindy, Nic Norton shows how to guarantee a solid hook set when fishing this method. Good fishing was had on a day when everybody else was complaining about the "harsh conditions." • what kind of hook were you using? would you do the same set up with worms? we don't have leeches in my small town

  • @BioEco22 Worms would work great.....so would artificial baits that are out there like Gulp and the Northland Impulse baits. Lots to choose from.

  • We were using good old fashioned live leeches and I've never done this with the Gulp Alive leeches. I've used them while rigging before and they are great, but my only hesitation with power corking with them is that it's a more static presentation. A walleye really has a chance to size up the bait and decide whether or not it wants to bite without any natural movement. Artificials tend to work better when the angler controls the bait. Powercorking is not the strongest way to do this. Try it! :)

  • Really Pogie? It is impossible to have a depth sounder that doesn't show fish! You can see them but that doesn't mean you can catch them. Besides, electronics like that have been around for over a generation a fish populations are doing great! Catch and release is a value you can pass to your kids too. The only thing you got right is the joy of fishing with family no matter what bites! We can all agree on that!

  • Leeches...but crawlers work great as well. Minnows are okay but can be tricky on slip bobbers!

  • soo you guys caught those witha slip bobber ?

if so what kind of bait did you use

  • @fishmaster1212

    We were using leeches.

  • NIce vid dude! I subbed!! :)

  • you using a drop shot rig hook? I fish a lot of gulp alive for bass

  • you use those gulp alive leeches on these? are they just as lively?

  • depth sounders that show where the fish are should be illegal. it would promote real sport fishing NOT to use them. and if you're concerned about passing the sport to your children they'll have more fish to fish instead of eating the junk from the farms. the best time i had was sitting in a boat with my dad regardless of what we caught.
