@ilikezappa no, being shot is an occupational hazard for criminals. The right to own firearms means that if someone wants to harm me, my family, or my property, they have to damn well earn it.

That got changed some time ago I believe. That is what was taught in my last renewal for CHL in Texas.

@n310ea Yes. Full magazine, bullet in chamber, safety off. Completely legal, as long as you're legally allowed to own a gun.

If you are a Texas CHL licensee and an officer asks for your Driver's License or Identification, you must, by law, provide them both your DL/ID and your CHL cards.
If you are not a CHL licensee, and you are pulled over, you are not required to declare that you have a weapon in the vehicle. If they ask if you have a weapon (almost always before they search your vehicle) then you declare it. You are not legally obligated to tell the officer you have a weapon until he asks.
