I bought one of Carrera's first albums when he was gaining international fame in the 70s.
He sounded so different back then. So secure. Now he has audible problems with breath control and legato. A real shame.
Some say it was the cancer. Others say it was taking on roles too heavy for his natural voice.

I know that Carreras' technique, particularly in the passagio was not perfect. I heard that this may have been the result of his illness in the 80's, Nevertheless he is a wonderful artist. His greatest attribute was that he sang with taste, never over-singing like too many tenors.
