Mac Tonight Compilation

A compilation of every Mac Tonight commercial I could find, all in the one video for ease of viewing.

Mac Tonight was a mascot introduced by McDonald's restaurants in 1986. He was intended to advertise McDonald's late night hours to adults. He had a crescent moon for a head, wore a suit and sunglasses, and was depicted as being a jazzy lounge singer. The name was a play on words of the song "Mack the Knife", made popular in America by Bobby Darin. The song that played over the advertisements, called "It's Mac Tonight", was also a variant on that song, but with McDonald's-themed lyrics, such as those featured in the original 1986 commercial. Recently he has re-appeared in a commercial that has aired in many countries, including Singapore and Malaysia.

For the longest time, I wasn't sure why I associated nightlife with a sunglassed moon-head. Then I came upon this video, and I was instantly transported back to the mid-80's, when my 4-year-old self saw these commercials and first got the idea that a nightlife actually existed after I went to bed. It was a surreal revelation to watch this again.

I was five years-old when these adds came on, to this day whenever I hear the song Mac the Knife, I think of Mac Tonight.
