9862 mile contact from Milwaukee, WI to Mauritius (Indian ocean). MFJ 4 Watt 30 Meter QRP Rig with sloping dipole from 40 feet. Best contact by far, and QRP makes it all the better. Happy Hamming!! Long live CW!

QRP is great! I've done 1,000 miles per watt on 20m using 2 watts and a magnet wire dipole up 4 feet!

great stuff i hate it when my neighbour cranks up his 2kilowatt

NG9D, It sounded like you were using a paddle, but went to the computer. Either your VERY talented, or your using the computer to Tx the code! Heard you start to use a paddle, but then all I heard is keys "clicking" in the background. Thats cheatin'! Nice Vid! I like how you spelled out everything and kept the mistakes out of the posted words for non code hams to copy. Loved the QRP SUCKS PART! If hes a "Top Band" hes gotta be QRO! TU AR SK ..

Just for fun, last year, I ran up a 7.030 single transistor crystal oscillator producing about 150 mw into a simple pi network to a 1/4 wave endfed wire out the shack window, working against the house central heating pipes, and attached a key made from a spoon, a piece of ply and some screws. Hearing my call coming back from faraway Germany after about the third call was the biggest buzz I ever had since my first ever radio contact 30 odd years ago! You can enjoy ham radio for pennies.

But on phone SSB its time to get out the 1.2 KW amp and have fun!!
QRP on CW is a blast! I have made tons of contacts only running 5 w into a 135' doublet up 40'.

@K9FON BS. I use less than 10w all the time on 75m. With a good antenna, it is easy. I talk to a guy close to 300-miles from me all the time with around 1w; while being S9! An amplifier is just a crutch for a poor antenna system! Yes, I own a 1kw amp, but I only use it when needed. What is the point of being S9+40dB to everybody on 75m within 500-miles? If I can be heard at 5w, 10w, 100w, or it takes legal limit, then this is what I am going to run!
