Prague on 28 April 2009. The event honoured some of Europe's most inventive minds. The awards are a joint initiative of the European Commission and the European Patent Office, launched in 2006. They honour inventors and inventions that have made a significant and lasting contributions to technological progress in Europe and so to strengthening the European economy. They awards are presented once a year in four categories: Lifetime achievement, Industry, SMEs/research and Non-European countries.
