What did Mao Zedong really say on October 1, 1949? History records that Mao uttered the now famous slogan: ''The Chinese people have stood up.''

It's perhaps the most famous slogan on the mainland and those few words nicely sum up the prevailing sentiment at the time: The Communist Party, at last victorious, had stood up to Japanese invaders, meddling western influences and a corrupt Kuomingtang.

But despite what the history books and documentaries teach, those who were in Tiananmen Square on October 1, 1949 say Mao never utter the phrase for which he is credited.

  • @Jax010 The akward moment when you realize he didn't actually get those mixed up, he has no idea what they actually mean! Nice job America, you ignorance overcomes all of history

  • @Iraqisocialist Both our strategic bombing in the Gulf War and Iraqi Freedom combined of military targets and the occasional wrong target don't add up to even close to 3 million. Why do you waste your time trying to cover for the real things that socialists and communists have done in history like the Holocaust with stupid charges like this. People like you who try so hard to hate on free society, deserve to work a rice patty as a communist serf.

  • @CyberSpaceman81 " He came to power by killing Chiang Kai -shek"

What the bloody fuck? Get the hell outta here. Get the hell outta here and pick up a history book, you ignorant tart.

  • @Zhoushunquan He was a murderous power mongering communist thug. He came to power by killing Chiang Kai -shek who had China in fond relations with the United States and the Flying Tiger American volenteer aviators who were defending China with their United States blood. The communists have supported and still support every belligerently violent and rouge third world dictatorship out there who threatens the peacefulness of the free trading modern nations of the west.
