@philosophygoth91 You've never heard of the fight or flight instinct? At the very least, some of the people on the raft could try swimming away instead of sitting there, screaming, and waiting to be killed. I suppose some people really do respond to things like this by standing still and doing nothing "deer in the headlights" style, but I personally think it's a relic of 1950s monster movies, where female characters stood in place and screamed while the monster slowly came at them.
