Hi. You are playing the melody at half speed of the chosen rythm, making the rythm and melody work against each other (fast rythm vs. slow melody). If i.e. your tempo are now at 140 beats pr.m., you should cut it in half to 70 and then play the melody at the same speed as you do now. Learn how to play it with the correct beats pr. note at slow speed, then gradualy increase the tempo until you have reached a natural tempo for the song. Good luck.
