Silica is a common substance found in sand, rock, and building materials such as concrete and brick. Cutting, grinding, or drilling these materials releases dangerous crystalline silica dust into the air. This video shows how breathing in silica dust can cause permanent damage to the lungs.

  • Great video shows vary clearly how easy it is to damage are lungs.

Wet cut and ffp3 dust mask the only way to live.

  • @readbtwthelinesutool the best protection is offered by a ffp3 half mask with R & D filters. 3M, Moldex and North Safety make some good ones

  • makes me want to stop breathing

  • @WorkSafeBC

thanks i will be using it in training sessions.

worksafebc. you have come along way since cg in the first aid vidoes

    keep up the good work

  • @readbtwthelinesutool

for silica dust at the concentrations that you as the worker are exposed to.

Dust masks are not good enough. you need a 1/2 mask respirator with p100 cartridges.

if you are just in the general area that silica dust is being created and there is good ventilation then a dust mask is sufficient.

if you need more information send me an email

  • can anybody tell me if a dust mask really stops this stuff from getting in my lungs. I mean i would think if your face is sweating all day (me) and your mask is getting wet the mask isn't fitting snug enough to stop this stuff from getting in. I'm SCARED!

  • That is called Black Lung aka Silicosis. It used to be very common amongst coal miners.

  • Oh and I'm not a construction worker, I'm only a concerned human biologist.
