Rakes of Mallow played on a whistle in E that I made from a Clarke Meg whistle in D. Instructions are here if you want to try making one: http://www.hudson.nu/blog/2009/11/how-to-make-tin-whistle-or-penny.html

  • Inventive! How do Dnat (oooxxo) and second octave B (ooooxx) and C# (ooooox) sound and play?

  • I just tried it and its not too bad. Looking at the notes with a tuner xxxxoo is a little flat, but thats one of the holes I drilled so filing it out (or using a tapered reamer on it very gently) should bring it up to pitch. Its an interesting experiment. My idea is to turn a C whistle into a D with an extra hole at the bottom.

  • I would be very interested to hear how you make out converting a C to a D7.

  • Cool!
